Monday morning sunshine

After a pretty grim weekend, not only weather wise but also for the English rugby supporters, the sun came out this morning and what a pleasure it was. The wind was blowing a bit which was helping to dry the animals out and I managed to get this picture of one of Inca Matadors crias, a light fawn male showing the lustre almost as though he has been polished. I do like suris in the sunshine.

Quiet week….

I went upto to Bayden on Monday to pick up our two black girls that have been mated to EPC Streslecki. This is Matt and Kathy’s new black male imported from Australia. These are replacement matings as we lost our Bulleyman cria at birth this year and as EP Cambridge don’t own Bulleyman anymore they very kindly gave me two matings in return. The girls seemd very pleased to be back and after 48 hours on their own skipped off down the raceway as though they’d never been away. One of the females has a Little Legend cria at foot, a dark brown male called Fortress. I must say he has really grown out well and is nice to have a bit of darker colour in the younger cria field which at the moment is predominantly white.

Sex Education classes….

We brought the group of mums and older cria in to worm and check them all over. Somehow the females always associate the barn with matings and very often we will find a female sitting for no reason, or moreĀ  likely she’s telling us she is not pregnant. As you can see that happened today with a fawn suri from Moonsbrook Alpacas. The male cria were very quick to practice their mating skills on her and by the look of it they need the practice!!

We brought Inca Matador in and he showed them how the pro’s do it!

Sunshine…..

The sun came out today and so did the trusty old Nikon and as I’m still on light-duties I could spend some time in the fields with the alpacas without feeling guilty!!

Back again…..

Sorry the blog has been quiet for the last week but I have been a bit under the weather, hopefully back to full strength now. We had a busy day yesterday with a great crowd of people for the Experience day. Only one stabbed finger during the injection session which wasn’t bad considering the number. The weather was very kind and Felicia’s lunch went down very well.

We had some good news from Australia yesterday where our female Lorraine had a baby boy. Lorriane is a Warrior daughter and the cria’s sire is Ambersun Achilles so fingers crossed that he’s a good ‘un.

A video of the cria’s birth and first few steps can be seen on Youtube at:
