Popham Alpaca Stud

Our objective is to have top quality genetics available to alpaca breeders. To facilitate this we have made our own import of males from Ambersun Alpacas in Adelaide and made some carefull purchases here in the UK. We now also have our own males available which are coming through our breeding system. All matings come with a 30 day live cria guarantee.

We can do drive by (DB) or mobile (MM) matings according to your requirements; see individual animal details for fees. For any journeys greater than 50 miles one way there will be a mileage charge. We have our own ultrasound scanning equipment for pregnancy confirmation.

Inca Matador

A stunning example of a true to type suri macho imported from Australia. His cria have consistently won prizes in the show ring. One of the best was Popham Eddie, a fawn male suri who was Champion at the CCA Show 2008, and reserve Junior Male at Bath & West 2008. Eddie has now been exported to Germany as a Stud Male. All Matador progeny show a very high level of lustre and their fleece consistently have that desirable greasy feel. Inca Matador's father is the renowned Australian suri Cedar House Peruvian Amador who is bred from Accoyo lines, exported to USA and then in 1999 to Australia. 100% Suri progeny to date.

Little Legend

A finely-fleeced individual with a compact textbook conformation. Consistant fawn colour across the fleece. Latest stats show that Little Legend is holding his fleece quality as he gets older. His progeny are all solid colours.

Popham Ambersun Alamo

Just after choosing Alamo at Ambersun Alpacas, near Adelaide, he won Champion Intermediate Male at Strathalbyn. At that time his micron was 15.8. (Yocom Macall). Ambersun Alamo is a spectacular white male with a highly sought after pedigree. Son of the eight time Supreme Champion, Fine Choice Peruvian Ultimo. His grandsire is Peruvian Auzengate.

Alamo's fleece is sensational. It is bright with an exquisite soft handle. He has a well defined crimp which is evenly distributed throughout. Since arriving we have seen him grow into an outstanding male and should carry all the excellent traits of his esteemed father Ultimo on into the next generation. His progeny always show the best of Alamo's characteristics. They have very fine and bright fleeces and are well grown and very easy to handle taking well to the halter.

Popham Ambersun Verdello

A strong boned alpaca with a dense well crimped fleece showing excellent coverage. His sire is ILR Ppperuvian Auzengate whose progeny have won 246 championships and 21 supreme titles in Australia up to January 2004. His progeny are all showing promise with fine stylish fleeces and excellent coverage.

Ambersun Camouflage of Popham

Reflecting the changing face of the alpaca industry for all the opportunities it offers. Camouflage, a rare stunning leopard appaloosa huacaya stud male is striking, both for his remarkable pattern of colour and his advanced quality of fleece. His spots run from the top of his ears right down to his toes and he has a wide variation in colouring ranging from white to brown to rose grey on his back line; a true appaloosa, not a fancy or multi. He is one of only two appaloosa males to be be born to date at Ambersun Alpacas in Australia and we have been lucky enough to get him over here.

But it is not only about his spots, Camouflage's sire needs no introduction being the renowned Jolimont Warrior who has won numerous prizes himself including Supreme at Royal Melbourne in 2004. His progeny have set the records in Australia for consistently bringing home the prizes across a range of colours. His grandsire is ILR Pperuvian Auzengate whose progeny had at our last count in 2004 won 243 Championships and 21 Supreme titles in Australia. (Auzengate has sadly passed away now).

Camouflage's first fleece in June '06 measured micron 15.0, SD 3.5, CV 23.1%. In July '07 it was micron 16.8, SD 3.8, CV 22.4%. Camouflages first cria have now arrived and we are very pleased to say that he is passing on the appaloosa gene. So far cria born to solid white mother are showing the spotty pattern whereas those born to coloured females are solid in colour themselves. Often the same colour as the dam.

Popham Columbus (France)

Popham Columbus is resident at Quelvehin Alpagas near Pontivy in Brittany France. A superb proven 'Remarque' macho, Columbus has a solid heavy frame and is still carrying an excellent fine, bright and very dense fleece with very little guard hair at 5 years of age. His remarkable show achievements peaked this year with a Supreme Show Championship at Vierzon. Columbus arrived in france in 2006 and has been winning prizes ever since.

Moonsbrook Cosmo

Cosmo's show record speaks for itself, an outstanding suri male with dense lustrous and greasy fleece with a well defined locking structure. His conformation is sound and correct. We have brought Cosmo to Popham to add colour and Bulleyman genetics to our high quality suri herd. In his first year of breeding he has proved right up for the job with confirmed pregnancies before he was two years old.

Popham Ambersun Flame

Flame came to us from Australia as an in-utero import. His dam, Yvette is a dark fawn female sired by Jolimont Warrior. She had an excellent showing career in Australia before joining us. Jolimont Warrior needs no introduction. Flame is sired by Benleigh Golden Flame, a son of the respected Purrumbete Inti so the genetics are certainly there. Flame has a very fine, bright and uniform fleece. This uniformity is exceptional as it is carried throughout. A point noted by Kathy Lloyd when judging and awarding him Supreme at North Devon 2010.He has a high amplitude lower frequency crimp. We are eagerly waiting his first progeny in 2011 and because of his coloured background have put him across a large number of our coloured females.

Cambridge Joshua

Joshua was born on Popham in the middle of a class visit from Duchy College. The only lad in the class was called Joshua and hence the name. At the time his mother belonged to EP Cambridge but we have since purchased her and she remains one of, if not the best female on Popham. From early days we could see that Joshua was a good one. His sire is the renowned Accoyo Remarque and his dams side is very impressive showing such names as Brutus, Highlander and Hemmingway.
A highly successful performer in the Popham Show team, the judges have acknowledged Josh for his high density, uniform and very bright fleece with high amplitude crimp style and exceptional fineness. This quality fleece is spread across his body and extends down his legs and peripheral areas.
